Stress fills our life in many ways! - Money worries, long work hours, no family time or personal time and the guilt which often accompanies the stress. It doesn't stop there - our concern about our children who are experiencing depression or anxiety, the worry about going to the right higher education schools and the outrageous bills. The stresses from the traffic, the news, worrying about a mass shooting, caring for aging parents, all add up to very high-stress levels.
Did you know, according to Dr. Mark Hyman, Director of the Functional Medicine Clinic at The Cleveland Clinic says 95% of all illnesses are a result of stress?
Reiki, a Japanese technique, is universal life energy sent through the hands of a qualified practitioner. If you look at the palm of your hand, you most likely see the inner surface of your hand. What you have in that palm are many cells with atoms in the nuclei creating energies in our bodies. Ki is energy in Japanese; therefore, Reiki is treating personal energetic vibrations with energy, maintaining our body's equilibrium and emotional balance.
The purpose of each Reiki session is to reduce stress and help the person relax, aiding the body's ability to move into homeostasis, resulting in wellness. Reiki, a form of energy medicine, promotes patients' well-being on physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional levels. Reiki is a powerful and gentle energy technique; many spontaneous miracles occur as a result of Reiki.
What is it like to have a Reiki/Energy session? It begins with a short conversation discussing issues a client may be having, whether physical or emotional. The client remains fully dressed without shoes while lying on a massage table. The session starts with a prayer or meditation. Hands are then gently placed on or above the client, starting with the top of the head and working down throughout the body with attention focused on the client's energy centers (chakras). At times, I will use sound healing and crystals to aid in the session.
When one is stressed, it causes excess production of cortisol and adrenaline. This overproduction can create blockages in the survival energy centers. The energy moving through the hands works to remove the blocks the client may be having by assisting an even flow of ki (energy). Clients will often fall asleep, and afterword feels very relaxed. The session frequently removes discomfort in joints, helps with clear thinking, reduces stress, and much more. During a Reiki session, the parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated by the Reiki, assisting the self-healing abilities of the body to heal itself.
